You plug your camera, mobile phone or other device into your computer or laptop and BANG! An error message pops up on screen. You know your going to be sat at your computer wondering what the message means, and more importantly if you have lost your precious photos, files or music.
I have compiled a Top 5 of the most common errors to aid you quest to recoveryYou know the score. Card Recovery Pro is the way to go!
1. "Cannot read from the card, would you like to format it?"
Basically, your memory card is either corrupt, but the solution here is more likely to be that this is the first time you have plugged your device into your computer and the memory card will need to be formatted for first time use.
2. "Format Error"
Same as above, although something to consider is that perhaps the first time you tried formatting your memory card failed. If it gives you the option to reformat, give it a go!
3. "File Error"
This is a bit more difficult to interpret. This can happen whereby some files will load. But not all files will. The cause here could be a corrupt file, or an invalid file is present on the memory card.
4. "A read or write error message"
5. "There might be a problem with some files on this device or disc"A read error message could mean that you have insufficient software on your computer, i.e. you have no photo viewing software to be able to see the photo on-screen. This error could occur if you do have an image viewing program that could be corrupt or infected with a virus. A write error message can occur if you are trying to copy files/photos from your memory card to a folder on your computer for safe keeping. Try right-clicking on the desired file to see if the file is 'read-only' as this may prevent you from copying files to your computer.
Similar to file error, but the cause of this might be that you need to install the CD software that came with your camera for example, or update drivers for the device you are trying to connect! It could be a corrupt memory card, but I would try the solutions mentioned in this article before giving up.
These errors could be re-worded on screen, but the solutions above may give you an indication of whats gone wrong. Although not mentioned above, sometimes your computer will advise you to use error-checking or disk-checking software. Often your computer may have a built in utility tool that could worm for you.
As mentioned in one of my previous articles, I had great difficulty recovering photos from my camera, andCard Recovery Pro really did help me with retrieving my corrupt photos.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you find this article helpful!
